Festival season is back in full swing. And you have no reason to neglect one of the most important parts of your festival looks: the shoes. You want to look good, that’s for sure but we also recommend you dress smart, for your comfort. Festivals, as we all know, are long and energy draining. And you need to be planning for a great, comfortable experience.
The best festival shoes should be comfortable and versatile, they should comfortably help you go from stage to stage, not hurt when you’re dancing, running or just standing in line.
Of course, just like we mentioned in our previous article about how to prepare for an EDM festival, we recommend not to wear your most expensive pair of shoes. Your shoes will get dirty at these festivals. With that in mind, we looked for shoes that are stylistically classic and versatile, comfortable, and equipped for rain or various terrain.
Before diving into the list of shoes, we need to mention a few important things to consider and keep in mind:
1. Pick & try the new shoes before the festival
This one needs mentioning, since a lot of people end up buying a recommended pair and don’t try it before the event. This results in quite the disappointment at a time when you can’t really buy another pair. This is a problem that is quite easy to prevent. Buy a decent pair of shoes, and wear them around to break them in before you head to the festival.
You’ll notice time and again, from the most experienced ravers that it’s always best to opt for a good pair of athletic shoes (a lot of die-hard dance music fans in different reddit groups swear by the Adidas Ultra Boost which is available in both womens’, mens’ & unisex options.
What about sandals?
You’re around a lot of people, so it will take some additional effort to avoid someone stepping on you. Should that happen, you can get seriously hurt. In addition, you might find yourself deeply uncomfortable if it rains and you’re walking in mud with open-toe shoes. Even when it’s in the middle of summer, you might step into mud, wet grass and such. Stay away from plastic flip-flops; since they lack any sort of arch or foot support, you’ll be doing yourself more harm than good. So we recommend a comfortable sandal with strong support and cushioning if you really want to go for it. Overall, our best advice would be sticking to closed footwear like a sneaker or boot.
2. Decent insoles & good socks
Speaking of closed footwear, we mentioned having comfortable and significant support in your shoes. This comes in the form of good quality insoles. Regular dancers know how important this is. Dr. Scholl’s makes great gel inserts for both men and women. They are easy to switch out once you’ve danced them down to the point where they’re no longer super reliable.
Another thing to have with you is a good pair of socks. Invest a little extra money in a pair of athletic socks that will keep the sweat off your feet. Cotton socks are not recommended as they will absorb the sweat which will end up being more of a problem than a comfortable thing.
If you’re wearing boots, consider hiking socks. Make sure they’re tall enough to avoid the bare leather rubbing against your skin.
